Chamber Secures Major Victories during 2023 Spring Legislative Session 

PRESENTED BY THE CHICAGOLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE 

The Illinois General Assembly adjourned its 2023 Spring Legislative Session on May 27, after finishing up with marathon session days focused on the budget and a slew of end of session priorities. The Chicagoland Chamber team worked tirelessly throughout Session advancing proactive initiatives to grow the economy, build the region’s workforce, and support Chamber member legislative priorities. This included working with legislators across the political spectrum, the Governor’s Office, State agencies, and countless stakeholders, tracking thousands of bills, taking public positions on over 100 bills, and offering public testimony in 40 separate Committee hearings.

ICYMI: Annual Meeting Addresses Crucial Concerns and Promising Prospects

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce hosted its 119th Annual Meeting of Membership, a premier business event for Chicago’s business and civic community to celebrate the contributions commerce and industry make to a great city. This year’s luncheon, presented by AT&T, was hosted at the Hyatt Regency Chicago on June 6, featuring a keynote fireside chat with DNC Chair Jaime Harrison regarding the arrival of the 2024 DNC Convention in Chicago and a special address from recently inaugurated Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

July 1: Minimum Wage Increase and Fair Workweek Changes Go into Effect 

PRESENTED BY CHICAGO BACP 

The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) announced the annual scheduled increase in Chicago’s minimum wage and a scheduled enhancement of the Fair Workweek Ordinance requirements. The Chicago minimum wage is tiered for large businesses with 21 or more employees, and small businesses with 4 to 20 employees. The minimum wage for larger employees increases annually according to the Consumer Price Index or 2.5%, whichever is lower. Additionally, on July 1, 2023, the Fair Workweek Ordinance will include updated compensation metrics.
