Chicago’s New Paid Leave Ordinance Overview

The City of Chicago in November of 2023 passed an expansion and complete rewrite of the City’s paid sick leave law that had been in effect in the City of Chicago since 2017. In a matter of weeks, effective December 31, 2023, the new Ordinance, called the “Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance,” will be taking effect.

The new law will require every employer in the City of Chicago to provide 10 days of paid leave to its employees, with various onerous and potentially costly other requirements.

This webinar, hosted by the Chamber’s Government Relations team, will provide background, raise awareness, and allow for businesses to learn more about what will become the most expensive and complicated paid leave mandate in the country. The webinar will also provide details on next steps in the legislative and administrative process, including ongoing discussions surrounding rules and regulations that will have to be promulgated by the City of Chicago ahead of the new law taking effect.
