Plenary Keynote: The Future of Chicago’s Film Industry

Consumer technology has long been a story of disruption and nowhere is this more evident than in how we consume content. Companies like NBC/Universal, HBO/Max (Warner Media), Netflix, Disney/Fox, and Apple have been on the leading edge of this disruption.

Similarly, Chicago’s film industry had undergone a transformation over the past decade. Since 2010, an estimated $3.1 billion in direct spending has been pumped into our local film economy, catalyzing an annual average of over 10,000 job hires, while sparking a proliferation of linear broadcast, cable, and streaming series that have filmed or are filming locally. These include shows like the One Chicago Franchise (NBC), Fargo (FX), The Chi (Showtime), Southside (Comedy Central), and LoveCraft Country (HBO), as well as feature films such as The Chicago Seven, Southside with You, I Used to Go Here, Widows, An Acceptable Loss, and Hala.

As we continue to build up the capacity, supply chain, and diverse workforce needed to support this growing industry, what’s in store for the future of content creation and what does it mean for Chicago’s economy?

Plenary Keynote: Chicagoland’s Clean and Equitable Energy Future

As we grapple with the global and local impacts of climate change, the pandemic and increased demand for clean and resilient power, the ways we produce, deliver and consume energy must continue to adapt to these changing realities. With the impacts of COVID-19 deepening longstanding disparities related to air quality, public health and economic opportunity in underserved communities in our region, it is even more critical to ensure that the energy transition is clean, resilient and equitable for all families and businesses.

How do we bring about the large-scale changes needed to introduce new clean technologies while ensuring that energy remains reliable and affordable, and that these investments provide benefits to all? ComEd CEO Joe Dominguez will discuss how the region can transition to a clean energy future, and how Chicagoland small and mid-sized businesses can play a role.
