The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce released the following statement regarding Governor Pritzker’s annual Budget and State of the State Address:

“The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce applauds Governor Pritzker’s continued focus on maintaining fiscal stability while advancing strategic investments that strengthen Illinois’ ability to attract and retain businesses. As the state navigates federal funding uncertainty and ongoing fiscal pressures, a growth-oriented budget is essential to sustaining our financial progress. We commend the governor’s commitment to identifying cost-saving efficiencies in government, prioritizing improving Illinois’ credit rating, ensuring full pension funding, expanding the state’s nuclear energy capacity, and investing to prepare and support Illinois’ workforce,” said Jack Lavin, President and CEO of Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

“However, we are concerned about the proposal to pause the data center tax credit program, which will eliminate a proven economic development tool, as well as the proposed tax on social media platforms. The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce stands ready to work with Governor Pritzker and members of the general assembly to champion initiatives that reinforce fiscal responsibility, build a strong foundation on which businesses can grow and thrive, and help bolster Illinois’ strong workforce to move the state forward towards a brighter economic future.”
