We are encouraged by the many alderpersons who signed the letter to Mayor Johnson this week raising serious concerns about the proposed “jobs tax” and other elements of the FY26 City Budget. Their leadership reflects a growing recognition that Chicago’s future depends on smart, sustainable choices that strengthen our competitiveness and signal clearly: Chicago is open for business.

Policies that discourage employers from keeping and growing jobs in our city ultimately hurt every Chicagoan and every business. By listening to the businesses that invest in their wards and the residents who work in those jobs, these City Council members are demonstrating the power of collaboration.

We look forward to continued engagement with all alderpersons and stakeholders who share a vision for an economically vibrant, inclusive, and fiscally responsible Chicago—one built on growth, effective policy, and opportunity for all.
