The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce released the following statement applauding the passage of SB 3455, which will establish a process to review the property tax system across the state of Illinois.

“Illinois’ property tax system creates one of the most costly and burdensome tax bills in the country. While previous attempts at both the local and state level have failed to adequately and appropriately study the problem, this is a true mandate on the State to independently evaluate the property tax system, engage stakeholders, and create recommendations to be considered for fixing this broken system moving forward. The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce was proud to advocate for SB 3455 to allow the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) and the Department of Economic Development and Opportunity (DCEO) to evaluate the fairness of property taxes across the levy, assessment, appeal, and collection processes. We appreciate Sen. Martwick and Rep. Canty for their leadership on this effort and our partners in the House and Senate for supporting this important measure. We look forward to Gov. J.B. Pritzker signing the measure into law.”
