Chicago, IL – On May 9, 1950 French foreign minister Robert Schuman first proposed his momentous idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe. Today, May 9 is known as Europe Day, which recognizes Schuman’s historical declaration as the impetus for the creation of the modern day European Union.

In celebration of Europe Day, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 5th Annual EU Forum at The Drake Hotel on May 19 to provide a forum for Chicagoland businesses to hear from local EU leadership about new trends, policies and the future of the EU.

The following expert speakers will share insights from the European perspective on a variety of important topics, including the trade relationship between the US and the EU and the latest news and expectations regarding the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP):

  • Steven Bridges, Consul General of Britain
  • Mario-Ingo Soos, Deputy Consul General of Federal Republic of Germany
  • Vincent Tomkinson, Managing Partner, Chicago Office, Grant Thornton

Europe Day is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. The Chicagoland Chamber joins in that celebration by providing access to a global network that allows local businesses to make international connections and gain resources to drive growth.
