“Talent is equally distributed, but opportunity is not,” is a phrase originally coined by Leila Janah, a former entrepreneur who dedicated her career to the social impact space. That phrase motivated Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce member Relativity, a global legal and compliance technology company, to build its Relativity Fellows program and create more career opportunities for talented individuals from traditionally overlooked communities.

In 2020, the organization launched the Relativity Fellows program at its Chicago headquarters. Through this effort, Relativity has welcomed twelve motivated individuals to learn with the organization and on its industry-leading software so they can begin careers in fields such as litigation support and e-discovery.

“Participating in the fellowship was an opportunity to create a true impact and be exceptional in my career. The program provides hands-on experience and resources that you’re not going to get in the classroom or a typical job,” said Amari McGee, a Relativity Fellow of the inaugural cohort of 2020. “Future Fellows should expect a more elevated, thrilling and valuable work experience that they won’t find elsewhere. They can grow professionally, and at the same time personally, which helps to develop one’s character in a positive way.”

The end goal is for each Fellow to land a job in the industry, build a career and change their economic trajectory. In December, Relativity launched the application process for its second cohort of Fellows, which will commence on April 5, 2021. The team is looking for people with fires in their bellies and a willingness to work hard to succeed. Fellows play an important role in helping create an industry that better reflects local communities. Participants of the Relativity Fellows program receive:

  • Guaranteed full-time job upon successful completion
  • Five months of in-depth learning, mentoring and support
  • Health care coverage and competitive pay

Education is a major focus of the program, with Fellows spending the bulk of their time in a classroom setting learning from product and industry experts. They will also receive mentorship to prepare for a career in e-discovery. By the end of the program, all Fellows will have received instructor-led product training and support in pursuing Relativity certifications. Upon completion of the program, all Fellows will be ready for placement in a full-time position with Relativity, our partners or our customers.

Applications for the spring 2021 cohort are now open and candidates can apply here. The application deadline is Friday, January 8, 2021.
