The Illinois Lottery marks a significant milestone this year as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this month. Since its inception in 1974, the Illinois Lottery — operated by Allwyn North America — has not only enriched countless winners but also contributed billions to the state’s education system and other important causes.

From its humble beginnings with weekly drawings to being the first televised drawing in the nation, the lottery has grown to include a wide array of games, including scratch-offs, daily draws, and multi-state jackpots like Powerball and Mega Millions.

Beyond the excitement of winning, the Illinois Lottery has contributed some $24 billion to the state’s education system. A substantial portion of the Lottery’s revenue is dedicated to funding public schools, ensuring that students across Illinois have access to quality education. Additionally, the Lottery supports various community programs, including initiatives aimed at fighting homelessness, supporting veterans, and promoting responsible gaming.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the Illinois Lottery is planning a series of special events and promotions throughout the year such as their big event on July 18 (learn more here), and the Celebration 2nd Chance promotion where 50 $500 winners are picked for 15 weeks straight. These celebrations will not only highlight the Lottery’s rich history but also engage and thank the loyal players and retailers who have supported it over the years. From exclusive scratch-off games to community events and giveaways, the anniversary celebrations are designed to give back to the community that has made the lottery a success.

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce congratulates the Illinois Lottery on this remarkable milestone and looks forward to seeing its continued positive impact on our community.
