After nearly four decades of making charitable contributions of time, talent, and treasure to various organizations, I developed a relatively easy, very effective, and possibly obvious way to help overcome some of philanthropy’s receiving and giving challenges and to compound the good done in the process.
Whether you are on philanthropy’s receiving or giving side, I’m hopeful you’ll find something interesting and useful within this post.
Receiving Side: Overcoming Challenges

I’ve learned a charity’s biggest funding challenge is finding creative and effective ways to capture people’s attention and persuade them to donate. Understandably, with so many worthy causes competing for contributions, it can be challenging for a charity to stand out.
Despite a charity’s noble intention, another challenge is donor and potential-donor fatigue — the feeling of exhaustion and apathy that can set in when people receive constant requests for donations.
A way for charities to overcome these challenges is to foster the creation of philanthropic hubs. These hubs, led by individual donors, serve as a central point for managing an easy and effective way for the respective donor’s network of associates to join them collectively to make a noticeable and positive impact.
Naturally, each philanthropic hub will reflect the individual donor and their network. For example, my Chicago Private Yacht Rentals Charitable Charters philanthropic hub, which supports two charitable organizations, engages service providers and business associates.
So basically, to help overcome receiving side challenges, all a charity has to do is introduce the concept of a philanthropic hub to donors and encourage them to be empowered to engage their network of associates in a manner they feel would make a more significant positive impact.
Giving Side: Overcoming Challenges

One of the primary challenges I faced in my charitable giving was the overwhelming number of charity organizations vying for donations, which at times caused me to become apathetic towards giving.
Another challenge was ensuring that my charitable contributions would be used effectively to make a meaningful and lasting impact, especially when solicited by lesser-known or newer charity organizations.
To overcome these giving side challenges, I found success in creating philanthropic hubs for two of my companies, Chicago Private Yacht Rentals and URB, inc., which serve as central points for managing an easy and effective way to engage others as philanthropic partners to make a positive impact and compound the good we can do.
Ultimately, navigating the challenges of charitable giving requires thoughtful consideration. However, I’m confident you’ll quickly discover, as I did, that having a philanthropic hub is worth the effort for the substantial good done for a charity and for strengthening relationships by sharing very satisfying charitable experiences.
In closing, a central collective and collaborative effort is a sustainable way to overcome challenges and positively impact charitable giving on both the receiving and giving sides.
