On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Chamber closed the book on another successful Golf Classic — or, as it’s otherwise known, The Best Workday of the Year.
Despite warm temperatures, about 120 golfers hit the links at Glenview’s Glen Club at noon after Chamber President and CEO Jack Lavin kicked off the day with some inspirational words.
Lavin noted that he “will always consider the Golf Classic to be Jerry Roper’s event,” calling the late former Chamber leader a mentor and a friend. Lavin warmly welcomed Roper’s wife Carol and son Jerry Jr., who later won a Chevy Chase-signed poster of Caddyshack in the post-golf raffle.
The Golf Classic, which was generously funded by Presenting Sponsor American Airlines, included 18 holes on the award-winning Glen course, a BBQ lunch, and a memorable helicopter golf ball drop raffle. Business and civic leaders also participated in the hole-in-one, longest drive, and closest-to-the-pin contests.
Event winners included:

Women: Kendall Navin, Kovitz

Alas, no one drove home in the Ford Mustang that would’ve gone to anyone who it a hole in one. Maybe next year, golfers!
The day ended with drinks and conversation in the Glen Club’s beautiful clubhouse, then the heat was broken by a brief — but epic — rainstorm. Despite the day’s turbulent weather, the day was a massive success and left many looking forward to next year.
