The year was 1904. Chicago was emerging as a powerhouse of industry and innovation when the Association of Commerce and Industry (ACI) was founded to champion the city’s growing business community. Its mission was simple yet ambitious: to support Chicago’s economic expansion and help shape a more prosperous future. Among the ACI’s founding leaders was John Shedd of Marshall Field & Co., whose vision and leadership would guide the organization for decades to come.

Fast forward to 1992, when the Association of Commerce and Industry became the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce—a name reflecting both the organization’s regional impact and its continued commitment to economic vitality. Today, the Chamber carries forward the spirit of its founders by fostering a dynamic business environment, delivering value to its members, and helping make Chicagoland a world-class place to live and work.

In 2025, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce now represents over 1,000 businesses, including 400,000+ employees, across all industries. Through connections, advocacy, and thought leadership, the Chamber empowers its members to grow, collaborate, and lead.

On October 15, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce joins Chambers across the nation in celebrating Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day—a moment to honor the legacy, impact, and ongoing contributions of Chambers everywhere. For more than a century, the Chicagoland Chamber has proudly served as the voice of Chicago’s business community—and remains committed to advancing its success for generations to come.
