The delegation from Sichuan with members of the Chamber team.

In anticipation of the upcoming Annual Western China Import and Export Fair, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting with a Chinese delegation from the country’s western province of Sichuan on Wednesday, January 7.

The delegation, headed by Ms. Qin Yong, Director of the Organizing Committee for Western China International Fair of Sichuan Expo Affairs Bureau, discussed with representatives of the Chamber opportunities to expand cooperation and development between the Chicagoland area and the Sichuan province.

Sichuan Province is the logistics, business and financial hub of western China with a total population of 90 million people. Its top industries include electronic information, energy and power, equipment manufacturing, oil, gas and chemistry, aerospace and aviation, and food and beverages. About 280 global Fortune 500 companies have locations in Sichuan, including Intel, IBM, Toyota and Microsoft.

In 2014, the Western China Import and Export Fair hosted more than 38 different US companies and exhibitors. This year, organizers want to attract more American companies from the Midwest to participate. This presents an excellent opportunity for Chamber members interested in doing business with a growing emerging market, a great platform to introduce products and an effective way to gain access to this region of China.
