According to a trends analysis by the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership (CCWP) of data from Burning Glass reveals a job market in Illinois and Chicago that demands workers from a variety of occupations and industries.

The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce analyzed the data to contribute the most recent issue of the Illinois Innovation Index. According to the Index, no occupational group claimed more than 14 percent of total postings in Illinois in 2013, while the top 10 occupational groups accounted for more than three quarters of all online job postings in both Illinois and the Chicago MSA.

The Index also reports that software application developers and retail salespersons had the most job postings in both the state and the Chicago MSA, while the top ten companies by online job posting come from several industries. The Index will continue to monitor and present the
data on online job postings as a metric of real-time labor market activity.

The Illinois Innovation Index, launched in part by the ChicagolandChamber of Commerce, is an information resource that provides analysis and insights on business development and economic activity in our state that examines a different topic each issue.
