The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce is disappointed, but not surprised, with today’s Illinois Supreme Court decision finding the 2014 law requiring current and retired city employees to pay more toward their retirement as unconstitutional.

Pension reform is the single biggest issue driving the budgetary and political challenges in Illinois and Chicago.  The Chicagoland Chamber supports continued efforts to reform our State and City pension systems because reform is vital to putting our State and City on a path toward fiscal stability and to ensuring a competitive economic climate.  We encourage the Governor and legislative leaders to collaborate on pension reform to achieve common-sense solutions that will drive economic growth and job creation in Illinois and Chicago.
