The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement regarding the ruling by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which could sharply reduce the damages companies face in Illinois biometric privacy lawsuits:

“For years, the Chicagoland Chamber has advocated for changes to the state’s ambiguous and outdated Biometric Information Privacy Act to protect business of every size and sector from predatory lawsuits. This ruling is a major win for jobs and investment in Illinois and a commonsense protection for businesses against punitive litigation. We are grateful to the Court for upholding an important amendment to BIPA passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor that will help businesses fighting against massive judgements and protect economic opportunity across the state, while maintaining privacy protections for individuals,” said Jack Lavin, President and CEO of Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.
