Pathways to Pipelines: The ROI for Employers

Internships are an important cog in the recruiting wheel for employers, large and small.  Organizations need to develop young adult talent as the critical component of their workforce pipeline, especially as baby boomers retire and Gen X workers move into leadership positions.  According to the Collegiate Employment Research Institute of Michigan State University, employers routinely hire about 50% of the interns who work for them once they graduate.

Work-based learning experiences are critical for students, too.  According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, outside-the-classroom work experience is the most important factor employers consider when looking to hire recent graduates, even for students who have yet to work full-time.

Linking educators, students and employers is key to our region’s economic recovery and global competitiveness. Finding and mentoring interns can be one of the most important things you do for your business and for young adults' potential careers. In this competitive job market, internships have become more important and complex than before.
