Chicago, IL - No city can survive when its surrounding area isn’t meeting its potential and Chicago is no exception. A thriving Chicago depends upon a thriving suburban area, and, ever more so, a thriving Northwest Indiana and Southern Wisconsin.
Recently, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), commissioned by the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, released the groundbreaking analysis, the Chicago Tri-State Metropolitan Area Territorial Review. Since the Review’s release, the Alliance for Regional Development has formed to evaluate and execute the recommendations provided and to drive growth.
On February 21, 2013, Kelly O’Brien, Senior Vice President for Economic Development with the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, will address the Everything Entrepreneur Conference to discuss the purpose of increased tri-state collaboration and provide an update on region-wide strategic planning.
Ms. O’Brien will discuss the Review’s findings about the Tri-State Metro Region’s assets and challenges in four key policy areas: workforce development, innovation capacity, transportation and logistics and green growth.
“As the OECD Review states, all key public and private stakeholders know what needs to be done and why it needs to be done if the region is to sustain its role as a driver of national growth and global competitiveness. At issue is how to go about developing these action plans in a meaningful way,” says O’Brien.
O’Brien’s career spans both the public and private sectors and she has distinguished herself as a creative and strategic thinker. She has served as the Director of Public Affairs and liaison to the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration, Deputy Director of County Executives of America and is a licensed attorney in Illinois.
The Everything Entrepreneur Conference, sponsored by Wintrust Community Bank and the Business Ledger, is a perfect fit for her message. The Conference is dedicated to educating and inspiring small business. A Shark Tank®-like Funding Frenzy gives an opportunity to those who believe they have the Next Big Thing in development to pitch to a panel of investors. A Bootcamp combines business basics with fitness basics, a unique combination of those “bootcamp” philosophies. There will be an expo, workshops and keynote speakers.
The Conference will be held at the Tinley Park Convention Center, at I-80 and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. Sponsors include Venture Connects and Today’s Conferencing.
