Chamber Announces Senior Management Appointments

CHICAGO – The Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce announced senior management appointments as part of the organization’s continuing strategy to be the voice of business for the Chicagoland region. John A. Carpenter has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Marianne Treacy has been promoted to Senior Vice-President of Finance and Business Operations, and Kelly O’Brien has been appointed to Senior Vice-President of Economic Development.

“The promotions of John, Marianne and the appointment of Kelly today are an example of the tremendous growth the Chamber has experienced over the past couple of years as well as the increased focus of the Chamber to be the voice of business for all businesses in the Chicagoland region,” said Gerald Roper, President and CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce.

John Carpenter joined the Chamber in 2011 as the Senior Vice-President of Public Policy after 20 years as an executive with American Airlines. Carpenter served as vice president of corporate affairs for American Airlines, where he was responsible for directing all of American’s corporate programs and relationships with states, major cities, and airport authorities in the company’s domestic system. In his new role as Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Carpenter will oversee the day-to-day operation of the Chamber ensuring the implementation of the strategic vision of the Chamber’s Board of Directors.

Marianne Treacy also joined the Chamber in 2011. She has more than 25 years of experience in both public accounting and private industry including non-profit and for profit organizations, most recently as the Vice-President of Finance and Administration at the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau. Treacy will continue to oversee the financial and human resources aspects of the Chamber, including financial reporting, banking relationships, budgets and forecasts, payroll, IT, and accounting.

Kelly O’Brien, newly hired to the Chicagoland Chamber, will serve as the Senior Vice-President of Economic Development will lead the implementation and continued outreach of the recent Chicagoland Tri-State Metropolitan OECD review through the creation of the Tri-State Alliance at the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. O’Brien recently worked as an advisor to the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce Foundation for the Chicagoland Tri-State Metropolitan OECD review and prior to that she served as the Public Affairs Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA).
