Our new column “Through My Eyes” is the first of its type in Chicagoland and likely in the United States – a column intended to provide the business community with a place where they can learn about persons with disabilities in the workforce. The column is written by a registered nurse, entrepreneur and person with disabilities herself - Karen McCulloh, executive director of the Chicagoland Chamber’s disabilityworks program.

Plastic Bag Ordinance, Lack of Capital Construction Program Top the List

This article provides an update on key Government Relations activities at the city, county and state levels, which can be summarized as concern over the city’s Plastic Bag Recycling Ordinance, and the fact that the state did not pass a long-awaited capital construction program, as well as any new gaming expansion, pension debt refinancing, or lease of the Illinois Lottery. The inaugural session of the Chamber’s new “Bagels, Business & Politics” breakfast forum series, entitled “Growing Chicago’s Green Economy” and featuring Howard Learner of the Environmental Policy and Law Center, is also discussed.
